Molecular dynamics simulations suggest that the ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate differentially affects the conformational properties and stability of various ordered aggregates of the Alzheimer’s disease-associated amyloid β peptide in aqueous solution, with a greater destabilizing effect on higher-order oligomers due to reduced peptide salt bridge formation.
