The study uses stable isotopic approaches to trace nitrate contamination sources in the North Jiulong River watershed in Southeast China, finding that sewage, soil nitrogen, and ammonium are the primary sources, with varying contributions from different sources and seasons, and proposes that incoming water from upper reaches is a significant source of nitrate contamination in the midstream and downstream.
