The 2017 Classification of Periodontal Diseases was used to associate periodontitis stages with self-reported non-communicable diseases in a Norwegian population, finding that participants with Stage II, III/IV periodontitis had greater occurrence of coincident comorbidities such as cardiovascular disease, hyperglycemia in participants with diabetes and COPD/emphysema.
