This randomized prospective study found that while dexmedetomidine and propofol had comparable fentanyl requirements in patients after head and neck cancer surgeries needing mechanical ventilation, dexmedetomidine was associated with a higher incidence of bradycardia and hypotension, suggesting propofol as the preferred sedative in this context.
