In ankle fracture patients who underwent open reduction and internal fixation, advanced age, low preoperative serum albumin, peripheral neuropathy, open fracture, low surgical volume, and surgeon expertise were identified as risk factors for wound complications, including surgical site infection and wound healing issues.
