The presence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus is associated with a higher severity of diabetic polyneuropathy and an increased risk of painful neuropathy, but the degree of liver fibrosis does not affect the development of neuropathy.
