The study found that in treatment-seeking Black/African American adults with trauma exposure and heavy alcohol use, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms may mediate the relationship between trauma exposure and alcohol quantity consumed, supporting the self-medication model of PTSD-alcohol use disorder (AUD) comorbidity.
