This scoping review studied pragmatic rescue designs in pediatric postoperative analgesic trials for children aged 0-2 years, and found that immediate rescue designs, add-on and head-to-head trials are useful approaches for studying clinical effectiveness, side effects and safety, and that future trials could consider age-specific surgical procedures for this age group.
