“Geometric Frustration of Single Crystal Growth on Conical Surfaces with Small Opening Angles”

This study investigates how the constraint of closure on conical surfaces can geometrically frustrate the growth of single crystals, and finds that a seam and disordered particle packing typically form on cones with small opening angles, with the onset of disorder resulting from a finite-size effect that depends strongly on the circumference.
