This scoping review finds that healthcare providers’ care for patients with medication for opioid use disorder in the emergency department is influenced by multifaceted determinants across four ecological systems, including microsystem (patient-HP trust dynamics), mesosystem (interdepartmental synergies), exosystem (resource allocation and standardized training), and macrosystem (stigma, insurance disparities, and evolving policies), highlighting the need to address these interconnected barriers to optimize patient outcomes.
