This abstract discusses how changes in the landscape and design of clinical trials, specifically cancer clinical trials, can reinforce and challenge the “therapeutic misconception” and other misunderstandings, highlighting the need to re-examine the ethics of clinical research in areas such as trial access, participant selection, communication and consent, and role delineation.
