The layer-by-layer assembly technology, which forms self-assembled films of complementary polyelectrolytes or biomolecules, has recently seen developments in its use as 2D or 3D objects for applications in drug delivery and tissue engineering, such as vaccinology, 3D biomimetic tissue models, and bone and cardiovascular tissue engineering.
