The study found that PI-RADS 3 lesions are generally associated with a low likelihood of clinically significant prostate cancer detection, and that performing a systematic biopsy, with or without targeted biopsy, is essential for accurate diagnosis; the presence of abnormal digital rectal exam (DRE) and lesions localized in the peripheral zone (PZ) potentially predicts the presence of clinically significant cancer in biopsied PI-RADS 3 lesions.
