This study found that using cheesecloths in passive sampling showed the highest rate of positive samples and number of SARS-CoV-2 gene copies compared to other cost-effective sorption materials, but showed no correlation with the incidence of reported SARS-CoV-2 cases, while consistently detecting higher numbers of human adenovirus and crAssphage gene copies compared to composite samples.
