The study of 12 cascade reservoirs in southwest China found that dam construction led to a spatiotemporal heterogeneity in bacterial communities, with stochastic processes playing a more significant role in the Pearl River Basin, and environmental factors influencing nitrogen-related genes in the Wujiang Basin, suggesting a potential decrease in biodiversity and resilience in river-reservoir ecosystems with multiple cascade reservoirs.
