Diuron, a widely-used herbicide, is readily assimilated by the harmful algal bloom-inducing dinoflagellate Alexandrium pacificum, which also shows potential in biodegrading DCMU, while exposure to DCMU affects the synthesis of paralytic shellfish toxins and inhibits cell growth.
