This study suggests that measuring intraoperative parathyroid hormone levels immediately after thyroid gland removal can predict postoperative hypocalcemia in thyroidectomy patients, allowing for early identification of those not at risk and potentially enabling early discharge and reducing the need for postoperative blood calcium testing.
