This randomized clinical trial found that all three intrauterine devices (TCu380A, levonorgestrel 52-mg, and levonorgestrel 19.5-mg) were suitable for adolescents, with high contraceptive efficacies and continuation rates within one year of use, but users of the hormonal IUDs reported lower expulsion rates, more favorable menstrual patterns, and less dysmenorrhea compared to the TCu380A IUD.
