In the liverwort Marchantia polymorpha, the transcription factor MpTGA and its coregulator MpNPR regulate sexual reproduction and oil body formation independently and cooperatively, suggesting that coregulatory interactions between TGA TFs and NPRs were established after the emergence of land-plant-specific NPR genes and contributed to the diversification of TGA TF functions during land-plant evolution.
