This study found that a basic respiratory room is a reliable and valid tool for measuring momentary energy expenditure (EE) compared to a classical ventilated hood, although minute changes in activity can lead to an increase in EE and respiratory exchange ratio (RER) in the room, and further research is needed to understand the determinants of RER in this setting.
