The systematic review of 30 studies suggests that viruses, particularly rhinovirus, are more prevalent in chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) patients’ nasal specimens compared to controls, and are associated with exacerbations, worse symptom severity, and susceptibility to bacterial infections, but their exact role in CRS pathophysiology remains unclear.
