Scientists at National Chung Hsing University in Taiwan have developed a novel, one-pot synthesis route for a complex azepane-fused tetrahydro-β-carboline framework, using Rh-catalyzed hydroformylation double cyclization and stereoselective alkylation, and applied it to the total synthesis of (±)-20-epi-kopsiyunnanine K.
