The study found that a Pt/MnO catalyst demonstrated ~10 times higher activity and >99% CO selectivity in the reverse water gas shift (RWGS) reaction compared to a Pt/SBA-15 catalyst, due to the generation of edge dislocations and lattice expansion caused by interfacial interactions, which weakened the Pt-CO bond and enhanced CO desorption.
