The dominant genotype of Bordetella pertussis in South Africa from 2015-2019, characterized through whole genome sequencing, is ptxP3-ptxA1-ptxB2-prn2-fimH2, with no evidence of pertactin-deficient or other mutations in vaccine antigen genes, suggesting increasing cases are not due to genomic changes.
