The study found that using updated Royal College of Pathologists histological reporting standards and natural language processing, a 6mm clinical peripheral margin achieved a 95% histological clearance rate for basal cell carcinomas, suggesting that larger margins than currently recommended guidelines may be necessary for achieving higher excision rates.
