Recent studies using MEG and EEG have identified prediction-error responses in highly uncertain, atonal music and revealed cortico-hippocampal interactions during the formation of auditory memories for more predictable vs. less predictable patterns, contributing to the understanding of how the brain predicts and makes sense of uncertain sound environments and atonal music.
